Copper Leaf Earrings, Niobium Ear Wires

These handmade copper leaf earrings are my own original design. They feature rustic little diamond shaped leaf charms dangling from copper colored ear wires. I make each copper charm by hand, stamping the leaves into each one. I add niobium ear wires, which are very hypoallergenic. The earwires have been annodized to turn them a copper color. If you are looking for a unique piece of jewelry to go with a new fall outfit, these earrings would be a great addition!

These are also available in optional bronze with un-annodized (silver color) niobium wires. (not pictured)

I make each leaf charm out of copper metal clay. They are 100% copper. Since each one is handmade, they will not be identical. There will be slight variations in each one, which adds to their appeal.

Copper clay is clay made from tiny bits of metal, mixed with an organic binder to make it like clay. I stamp the leaf design into each charm and cut it into a square. Putting a hole at the top turns the square into a diamond shape. I dry them and sand them to make sure there are no sharp edges, then fire them in the kiln. At high temperatures, all the organic material burns out and what is left is pure copper.

I tumble the charms to harden them and add a patina to give them an aged look. In my opinion, these charms just get prettier as they age, so they don't require any care.

The ear wires are annodized niobium. Niobium is a relative of titanium. It is extremely hypoallergenic. If you have problems with sensitivity to metals, even sterling silver, I would give these a try. (I can't wear regular sterling either, but I can wear these.)

When heat or electricity is applied to niobium, it changes color. These earwires have been annodized to turn them a beautiful aged copper color. They go great with the copper leaf charms.

Charm size: 15 mm (a little over ½) square.
Length: About 1 ¼ (30mm) long from top of ear wire.
These ship in a gift box.
