Snowflake Necklace, Sterling Silver, Two Toned Snake Chain

This handmade snowflake pendant necklace features a fine silver snowflake. It dangles from a stunning black and white stripe .925 sterling silver snake chain with a spring ring clasp. Celebrate winter with this unique piece of jewelry that will go with anything.

The focal piece of this necklace is, of course, the snowflake pendant. I make each pendant out of fine silver metal clay. I stamp the snowflake design into it, before firing it my kiln. The high temperatures in the kiln burn away the binder in the clay and leave behind pure metal, in this case 99.9% pure silver. Fine silver has a higher silver content than sterling silver, which is .925 or 92.5% silver. Just like a real snowflake, each pendant is unique because each is individually handmade.

The back of the pendant has my initials, the "tai" character and .999 to mark the quality of the silver used in the pendant.

After the pendant is fired and hardened, I add a patina to make the design stand out. Then I polish it and add a jeweler's wax to help slow tarnishing. Although fine silver doesn't tarnish as much as sterling, if it does happen you can wipe the surface with a soft cloth and it will be as good as new.

The sterling silver snake chain that I have strung this pendant on is simply stunning! It is called a black and white snake chain. It's has a black strip winding around it sort of like a barbershop pole. It makes the chain slightly sparkly. It reminded me of the sparkle of the snowflakes, so I thought it was perfect for this pendant.

I attached the pendant to the snake chain with a jump ring. Since jump rings often come apart, I have soldered the jump ring closed so there is no risk of your pendant falling off the chain.

This pendant started out round, however after firing it is not perfectly round. This has to do with the shrinkage as the non-metal portion of the clay burns away. There may be slight variations in each pendant due to stamping, shrinkage, patina, etc. The pendant you receive may not be identical to the one shown, but it will be essentially the same.
