This handmade white butterfly necklace has glass, crystal, and sterling beads with an original fused glass pendant. The pendant has a butterfly design that I etched into the glass. It is a unique and truly one-of-a-kind (OOAK) pendant, wire wrapped with sterling silver. The handmade clasp and extender chain are also sterling silver. This necklace would be a perfect accessory for a butterfly or garden-themed wedding.
I call this necklace AFTER THE RAIN because it reminds me how clean and fresh everything is after the rain with little drops of sparkling water everywhere. If you'd like earrings to match, this would be no problem, as I have extra beads.
The focal piece of the necklace is the dichroic fused glass pendant. I etched the glass with a butterfly design before fusing the glass in my kiln. Three butterflies, one large and two smaller ones, are white on a pale pastel metallic-looking dichroic background. This is my own design. I individually make each pendant by hand and no two are alike. After fusing the pendant in my kiln, I put a groove in the glass and wire wrapped it with sterling silver twist wire.
The rest of AFTER THE RAIN is made of clear glass twist beads, faceted oval "sea opal" beads, white opal crystals, and sterling silver spacers. Sea opal is a type of glass that looks mostly clear with a little bit of a milky color to it. Against a dark background, it will pick up mostly teal. When held to the light, it will pick up mostly yellow or amber. The crystal roundel beads are translucent white. The light plays off the facets and twists on these beads. It gives the necklace lots of subtle sparkle that is not overpowering. The little silver daisy spacer beads give a nice contrast to the mostly clear glass. They also match the wire the pendant is wrapped with and the extender chain.
I finished the necklace off with a handmade spiral clasp that I made myself out of sterling silver wire. It attaches to a two-inch patterned sterling silver extender chain that ends with a final crystal roundel bead dangle.
There is only one of these. When it's gone, it's gone!
