Eagle Pendant Necklace, Sterling Silver Chain

This oval, silver pendant has a detailed image of a swooping eagle. I hand stamp the image into fine silver and added a rustic patina. It is attached to a sterling silver snake chain. This unisex necklace would be a great gift for an Eagle Scout!

The eagle is shown from the side, wings stretched out behind him in mid-flight. His head is down and claws out in front as if he is swooping down to grab some small prey. The feathers are detailed in his wings and tail, and even a little detail in his body.

NOTE: The pendant in the picture is sold, but I can make one just for you. Though it will be essentially the same, since each pendant is individually handmade, no two will be identical.

I make the silver pendant by hand using fine silver (.999) metal clay. The clay is made of silver with an organic binder. The eagle image is stamped into the clay. When fired in the kiln at high temperatures, the organic binder is burned away. When the pendant comes out of the kiln it is solid metal.

Fine silver is 99.9% silver, so it has a higher silver content than sterling, which is .925, or 92.5% silver. In addition to marking it .999, I initial the back of the pendant.

I added a liver of sulfur patina (color) to make the pendant look a little more rustic and outdoorsy. Then I hand polished the eagle a little to make the detail stand out. Finally, it is finished with a coat of jewelers wax to make the patina last longer.

The pendant is attached to the sterling silver snake chain with a jump ring that is soldered closed to prevent it from falling off. The snake chain has a lobster style clasp.
